Santa Claus meets AEGEE25 participants in Lublin!

On 3th of Dec 2010 10 brave participants from 4 country who were not afraid of polish winter and came to snowy pearl of East Poland - Lublin to celebrate 25th Birthday. On opening ceremony except the introduction to AEGEE we were talking about its history. "Get caught in a net of cultural diversity" was the main topic of this event, so we started to get knowing other cultures with European Night in polish style - at flat - in home conditions :)

I don't mention about first party which lasted till dawn. Because of it next morning was really challenged for all of us -we coped with it and after short city tour we took part in very interesting workshop "Building a multinational team via the Internet" lead by former NetComissioner - Marek Urban.

Another day - another workshop. This time participants got know about "Interpersonal skills in a multicultural background". Everybody was interested in how to act effectively and to communicate in the multicultural environment like organizing aegee project! When workshop finished Artur from AEGEE-Warszawa made performance and our birthday guests after this short lesson tried their skills in ... jugglery! In the morning, city games helped all participants to get to know a lot of mysterious legends and at evening we showed beauty of Lublin by night.

On the last day participants could take some breath to join in winter activities like snow fights or sleigh riding! This day was special Saint Nicholas Day in Poland, so before starting of birthday party Santa Claus came to us and gave a lot of gifts - sweet candies and shirts of AEGEE25!

Yes, AEGEE-25 participants really got caught in a net of cultural diversity after this wonderful 5days!

What happened at "Looking for the Slavic World"

At the end of misty November, 23 participants, four workshop leaders and countless organizers from 16 countries (of those 8 Slavic speaking) came together to talk about countries united by the Slavic heritage and to get to know more about each other.

AEGEE people celebrated the International Day of Students and commemorated the 71th anniversary of Prague events leading to its declaration, as well as the day of restoration of Czechoslovak democracy, and remembered the autumn's Eurupean Day of Languages.

During the workshops participants found out, that it is very hard to define Slavic identity, as it has many aspects, such as genetic, linguistic, cultural, territorial and others. There are rather no typical looks either.

On the other hand, it was a big surprise that the languages are much more similar than one would think before. Native speakers got confidence to use the mother tongue abroad more and participants from other countries lost their prejudices about difficulty of the Slavic languages got encouraged to become polyglotic.

An important conclusion was, that culturally are the Slavic countries very different and various, and instead of having much in common, they are more similar to their respective neighbours in Central and Southern Europe and the Balkans. There has been and interesting deep-going case study research performed as well (www.aegee-praha.cz/slavicworld).

From the political point of view, the participants agreed on a fact that the countries have a lot to learn from each other about both good and bad experiences, because the story of building and falling of the common states is actually a paraphrase of European integration in general, and therefore an important source to learn.

Event was full of positive energy and people enjoyed the time in Czech capital a lot, and in the end it was topped with a glamorous AEGEE-25 birthday party – with streams of champagne and unforgettable moments, celebrating the new age of the organisation.

The general conclusion of the event was, that being Slavic is not a nationality, but a lifestyle!

The organizers hope that this topic about an unique European phenomenon will continue within following projects and events of AEGEE and are ready to pass on the good experience.

AEGEE-Kyiv presented "Pay it forward!"

Pay It Forward event , that was held in Kyiv from 26 June till 2nd July, was dedicated to volunteering and the great movie that has the same name.
Those who know it will definitely agree with me, those who don't - I strongly recommend to watch. The idea of the film is that if one helps you, you help three in return.
This way you make whole world a bit better, brighter and happier. That's what we tried to do during the event. With a big group of AEGEE people we visited orphan house, brought some presents like fruits, pencils and papers, shampoos and toothpastes to children. And of course we made some entertaining program for them including show of a popular Kyiv singer and some handicrafts workshops. Children enjoyed it a lot, actually we also did.
Accept the idea of volunteering of course we had excursions all around Kyiv, boat trip along the Dniper river, active day on the beach, some games in the entertainment center and, of course, parties every night in the best Kyiv clubs! Participants were great from all over Europe and more: Paris, Barcelona, Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and even from Australia.
Some participants wanted to stay in Kyiv so much, that they even missed there planes or were trying hard to be late on it. But we managed to send them home - happy and excited!

Back to USSR:before&after AEGEE in Sankt-Peterburg

A few months ago nobody could imagine that 12 unbelievably wonderful participants from Spain, Greece, Finland, Belgium and Serbia would gather in Saint-Petersburg to celebrate AEGEE’s anniversary together! We, the organizers, showed them different sides of cultures in Russia, the cultures that came one after another, enriched our history and changed our identity: culture of the tsars’ time, soviet times and modernity (when AEGEE appeared). We strolled through the picturesque parks of Peterhof, took an imaginary trip on the Russian cruiser “Aurora”, explored the Soviet architecture, dived into the white nights, walked many kilometers to the unknown, became young pioneers for a moment and prepared delicious Russian meals… Of course we could never forget that it was AEGEE that gave us such an incredible opportunity to meet each other. We had a workshop “How AEGEE changed me”, where we played a quiz about AEGEE and discussed what are the new things it brings to our life every day. Another workshop was devoted to the life of Soviet people and the way it differed from today’s life. On the last day of event we blew 25 candles in a huge cake in honor of AEGEE =)
-Tamara Petrova, "Back to USSR:before&after AEGEE" coordinator-

"Many thanks for introducing us to this great city and for all the lovely hot summer days we spent together! All has been excellent and the long walks were really worth it!"
(Alex, Greece)

"I had a great time in this wonderful city. You made my time in the city really beautiful. Now I want to come back to visit you and discover the rest of Russia."
(Francois, Belgium)

"Thanks for everything, for being so sweet to us, for showing us this wonderful country and even for training us and our legs! Besos!"
(Carlos, Spain)

In the latest issue of AEGEE Monthly Events Megazine....

Hello!
Enjoy reading the latest issue of AEGEE Monthly Events Megazine here !!!
In this issue two of the AEGEE25 events: I WAS THERE and THE GOLDEN TWENTIES!!!

see you in another amazing AEGEE25 event!!!

UOZZAP in JUNE?

THE GOLDEN TWENTIES in Passau

AEGEE-Passau 20th birthday celebration was a great way how to spend the weekend, even if it reminded a bit of ex Regional Meetings with so many Germans around :) Nevertheless, they were nice enough to speak in English most of the time and hold all the workshops and speeches in English so also few amount of foreigners would understand it.
One of the biggest highlights of the event was not only Gala Ball, which is a separate story, but workshop by Marco Kalbusch, the founder of AEGEE-Passau who is currently working for United Nations in South Africa. His workshop made me remember all the reason why we are in AEGEE and why we are so passionate about it. There are so many things we are benefiting from, just we do not realize them anymore and they seem so natural for us - like speaking with people from other countries on daily basis, managing large-scale projects (yes, even more than one at the same time) and hopping from one city to other all over Europe. If all AEGEE workshops would be like the one Marco did, I have no doubts that AEGEE would double its amount of members and increase the amount of those members who are actively contributing to the association, not just benefiting from it!

-Anita Kalmane,AEGEE-Europe Vice-President&Network Director

"We were very happy with our event. After all, it was the first European event for quite some time in Passau (since the YNY Training course in 2008, actually, I think) and a big challenge for the organizing team, since it was their first big event to organize.
Everything went great and we all spent a great weekend together. We especially once again came to value the cosyness of Passau, because since it is so small, the participants could walk everywhere, from the local hosts' places (because everybody was hosted privately) to the place where we workshops took place to the Redoute, the local theater, were we had our Gala evening.
We were very happy that Anita and Manos from the CD were there and very moved by Manos's speech during the Gala evening. We also had a guest that especially came from Africa, Marco Kalbusch, the founder of our antenna, who lead a very much appreciated workshop about how you can benefit from your AEGEE work in your future life. During the afternoon, participants also especially liked the dance-workshop, where they could prepare for the evening, and the Voodoo-workshop lead by Frida, about how AEGEE has changed us.
The best part of the weekend of course was the Gala evening. The president of our university visited, we had some speeches, we appointed our new honorary members Stefan Hauk and Markus Schönherr, we had some great show acts by AEGEE-München, our "big brother", great food, and of course, partyyy! It was a perfect evening with a wonderful atmosphere.
The next day they Bavarian sausage breakfast was the end of a awesome weekend.
I think the great thing about this event was that it brought together former AEGEE members, people from AEGEE Passau and people from all over Europe to celebrate together and share something. We got a lot of nice comments about our event and we can say that we have been really proud that we were able to host it."

-Kathrin Renner, AEGEE Passau e.V.Coordinator The Golden Twenties-

"Oh my God, what a fantastic night!! So many charming, beautiful and absolutely stunning girls - and a perfectly organized evening. Chapeau!" (Georg Rehberger - AEGEE München)

"Thanks a lot to AEGEE Passau for your great Gala event! It was so so great!!!!" (Stefanie Kraut - AEGEE Heidelberg)

"Dear freinds of AEGEE Passau, it really was a great anniversary weekend. Whoever will organize the 25-years-anniversairy will have a really hard time to live up to this. We had a lot of fun! Thank you and see you in 5 years!" (Marco Kalbusch, Ex-AEGEE Passau)

AGORA? Here we go! (Opening Ceremony of AEGEE25 project)

Between the 12th and 15th April, AEGEE-Paris was proudly hosting the opening event of the AEGEE 25 project, at which two members of the project team were present. With around 15 participants, coming from all over Europe, and quite some organizers, AEGEE-Paris managed to make it an unforgettable experience. The participants were shown most of the historical and cultural parts of Paris, as well as the nightlife, and most importantly, they were able to feel the diversity and the spirit of the city. Apart from that, AEGEE 25 team members gave a workshop, during which the future of AEGEE was discussed, ideas exchanged and, as a result, quite some opinions collected. So, would like to thank all the organizers for their efforts and for giving us the chance to fall in love with Paris :)

'I WAS THERE' (Ai guos der, in Madrid ;)

‘I WAS THERE’ and now I can say that it has been a great event, one of our best events ever. More than 30 people from Europe in the capital of Spain, Madrid, living as Spaniards day and night, with a common goal: celebrate the 25th anniversary of our beloved AEGEE! As one of the antennae which founded AEGEE in the 80’s (EGEE those days), we have been proud of counting with the help of the two first presidents of AEGEE-Madrid, one of them being vice-president of the first Comité Directeur. They shared their experiences with us, giving us motivation, ideas and showing us how AEGEE changed their lives.
Known for our great nightlife, our fabulous city-tours, with professional city-guides, for being more than a team when organizing events, the event was supposed to be good, but with such a great group of participants and friends from all the Network, who came to join us during the weekend, the event was PERFECT.

Some feelings from our participants =):
"Laughing, drinking, walking around in one of the most beautiful cities of Europe, strolling from bar to bar at nights, meeting so many new people, feeling cosy all the time, getting involved into the Spanish life and culture, having a marvellous time with a great group in a flawless organising...

…This was the event to me and, honestly, I feel thankful for being there!
